The Division of the State Architect (DSA) promulgates California Building Code (CBC) provisions to address accessibility for persons with disabilities. These provisions are applicable to State and local government buildings and facilities, privately owned public accommodations and commercial facilities, and public housing. DSA has updated its CBC Advisory Manual and the Expanded Table of Contents to include the provisions adopted by the California Building Standards Commission for the 2016 CBC triennial code adoption cycle on January 19th, 2016. The 2016 CBC was published on July 1, 2016, and became effective on January 1, 2017.

The advisory manual includes the provisions adopted by DSA for access compliance, pertinent advisories developed by DSA and advisories from the US Department of Justice from the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The 2010 CBC-2013 CBC Cross Reference Matrix is not updated, but will be archived along with the 2013 CBC Expanded Table of Contents for Chapter 11B and the 2013 CBC Advisory Manual and will remain available on the DSA website. • • This document identifies the section number and title for each section and top-level sub-section in Chapter 11B. • This document contains the 2016 CBC accessibility provisions adopted by DSA and commentary on selected requirements.
